Crystal knife

One of the earlier illustrations I completed as a student at CGSpectrum. The task was to create a dagger with a transparent blade so I had practice painting light refractions.

I had to create a drawing of a glass/crystal knife that is set in a museum style display. The knife blade material has to be made of glass or crystal. The hilt and handle can be a combination of wood and polished metal.
I had to render any of the light that will scatter though the shadows that exist on your translucent materials, as well as render the distortion that occurs when light passes through transparent elements like the glass/crystal blade. From there i added minor texture and surface detailing before finally adding colour to the piece.
